The coreopsis is an unusual one only about 8" tall called 'Mouse Ears'. I've never seen it for sale anywhere, not sure where I got it. I have a six inch strip of open soil between the rock and the lawn, which I treat (sorry, it would be untenable in my current physical condition otherwise). I redid the rock border last year. I had tried landscape fabric, plastic everything, but couldn't keep the "lawn" (which is just domesticated quack grass, I think) out of the rocks and my garden beds. This has worked much better. I have since seen the same border treatment used at the Rotary Garden in Janesville.
I use my electric weed eater alone the very edge about every other mowing. My electric lawn mower wheel moves along the dirt line. I adjusted the rock to deal with the turning radius of my push electric mower.

Your coreopsis is already blooming? I like how you use stone to make an edging, but how do you cut the grass along the stone?
